INTRODUCTION TO NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY ( MEHB513 )

Course Description:

This course provides the introduction to nuclear technologies, beginning from the fundamental physics to its recent applications in power generation. Students will first be exposed to the basic atomic and nuclear physics and subsequently learn nuclear reactor applications, systems and components. Once the fundamentals covered, they will learn about nuclear fuel cycle and processes. This is needed for them prior to the discussions on the applications of nuclear technology in the power generation industry, which will be the focus of the course. Also, students will be taught on radiation hazard, its monitoring, as well as the related nuclear reactor safety concepts. The primary aim of this course is to equip the students with necessary background for a more specific career and post-graduate in nuclear-related industries, particularly in power generation.

Course Objectives:

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

1. Understand the fundamental concepts of nuclear physics, process flow and reactor theory.
2. Explain the nuclear fuel cycle and processes.
3. Understand the applications of nuclear technology in power generation.
4. Appreciate the hazards of radiation and understand the the concept of nuclear reactor safety.

Study of nuclear sounds interesting and challenging!! Malaysia lacks Nuclear Scientist,so you guys should consider studying more in depth in Nuclear Science!! As one of the aim of this course is to study specific career and post-graduate in nuclear related industries! Just make sure you do not be exposed to radiation!!!
